About me
"Culture contains the seed of resistance which blossoms into the flower of
liberation"
- Amílcar Cabral__________________________
DJ Emancipacion draws inspiration for her musical journey from people’s movements for freedom and liberation. Her sets take you on a journey through Africa (her homeland) via Chicago (her birthplace), tracing tribal roots, future dubs, and lots of soul. She will dance you through deep African house to cumbia and dancehall to classic R&B, all the while paying homage to the liberation songs of the people.
DJ Emancipacion has been a proud member of the San Francisco Bay Area dance scene for over 12 years, and has played and collaborated with many respected DJs and artists including: David Harness, Carlos Mena, J Boogie, Sake 1, Chuck D, Invincible, Mark Gonzales, DJ Nader, Cheb i Sabbah, Climbing Poetree, Fredwreck, DAM, Omar Offendum, and more...
Emancipacion is the founding member of SouLovely, the first all women's DJ crew based in Oakland, CA. She is also a resident DJ at the legendary house music weekly Brothers and Sisters alongside DJ Dedan.
When Emancipacion is not busy making joy on the dancefloor and producing music, she moonlights as a sound designer and composer for film and video.
